A £12.5m leisure centre in Wednesfield, Wolverhampton, has opened.

The 5,000sq m (53,800sq ft) facility – designed by GLR Architects and developed by Carillion – features a six-lane, 25m swimming pool; a leisure pool with flume and wave machines as well as a 140-station gym; a group training studio; café and children’s play area.

The centre was built under a PFI scheme funded Barclays Bank and DC Leisure, which is also operating the complex on behalf of Wolverhampton City Council.

Peter Kirkham, development and PFI director at DC Leisure, said: “The new leisure complex will offer a superb range of sporting and leisure activities for the local community and we are delighted to have worked alongside Wolverhampton City Council on this project.
