Protea Hotels invests US$100m in African hotels
South Africa based Protea Hospitality Group is planning to benefit from Sub-Saharan Africa's economic boom by investing more than $100m (£65m, €76m) in new hotel projects in the region.
This according to the group's CEO, Arthur Gillis, who said Ghana would soon become the ninth country in which the company had expanded into.
Protea plans to build a 130-room hotel in the Ghanaian coastal city of Takoradi which it plans on opening in early 2014. It chose the site because the city is an attractive leisure destination, but is also the hub of Ghana's recently discovered oil industry.
Meanwhile, the company also announced it would build a 25-room hotel in the upmarket suburb of Nyarutarama in Rwanda's capital city, Kigali. The hotel is expected to open in the last quarter of this year.
The hotel's facilities will include a 60-seater restaurant, bar, gym and swimming pool as well as executive boardrooms for meetings and conferences.
Protea Hospitality Group is Africa's largest hotel company.
