2014 legacy consultation results published

By Pete Hayman    25 Mar 2009

Glasgow City Council (GCC) has announced that the initial findings of an extensive consultation looking at the possible impact of the 2014 Commonwealth Games will be revealed at a series of events this week.

Information has been gathered to help form a Health Impact Assessment, which will consider the likely effects of Glasgow hosting the event in 2014, as well as ways in which the city can exploit the opportunities that will be generated. The consultation's main findings will be collated later this year to assist the development of the council's 2014 Legacy Plan, which will aim to increase participation, improve confidence and provide benefits for local communities.

A range of categories including civic pride and image, culture and learning, and health and wellbeing have been addressed as part of the consultation, which has involved contributions from more than 3,000 people between October 2008 and January 2009. Events are being held across the city between 23-27 March in order to present the initial findings, as well as allowing local residents the opportunity to discuss recommendations made.

Archie Graham, GCC executive member for Commonwealth Games delivery, said: "This consultation and the work that has followed since will provide an invaluable insight into what the people of Glasgow hope for from the Commonwealth Games in terms of its legacy.
