2018 Ryder Cup to be hosted in France
Le Golf National near Paris has been selected to host the 2018 Ryder Cup, after France held off competition from four other nations to stage the biennial golf tournament.
The decision means that France has secured the right to host the tournament for the first time, while it will also be just the second time the event has been held in continental Europe. Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain had also submitted bids as part of Ryder Cup Europe's "extensive" process to find a host to follow Hazeltine, Minnesota, US.
Scotland's Gleneagles is the next scheduled European host of the Ryder Cup in 2014, which will follow Medinah County Club, Illinois, US - the host of next year's tournament. In March, it was revealed that the 2010 Ryder Cup - held at Newport's Celtic Manor Resort - generated £82.4m for the Welsh economy.
