3XN will design waterfront “climatorium” in Lemvig
Architectural studio 3XN has been selected by the Lemvig City Council and Lemvig Utility to design a harbourside "Climatorium". The space will function as a research centre, exhibition hall, meeting venue, and visitor attraction for climate tourists.
The proposed two-storey structure, which will be built in Lemvig Harbour, features an undulating, wave-like exterior. The design also pays homage to the village's 700-year fishing history by utilising light-coloured wood inspired by the area’s boat halls.
Jan Ammundsen, senior partner and head of design at 3XN said: “The wave tells the story of the site and also refers to the serious challenges we face as a result of climate change.”
The Climatorium, scheduled for completion in 2020, is part of Denmark’s Coast to Coast Climate Challenge (C2CCC), a 6-year initiative that will run towards the end of 2022 and study the climate's effects on seawater.
According to West Jutland’s tourism board, the Climatorium will primarily function as a showroom for 22 projects on climate change.
