$5bn Dubai development announced
A $5bn multi-use leisure, tourism and entertainment development is to be built in Dubai.
Called Dubailand, the development will take place in two phases and include approximately 245 separate projects covering an area of 2bn sq ft. It will encompass a zoo, water park, ski slope, five-star hotels, museum, an artificial, glass-enclosed rain forest and a 25,000-capacity, multi-purpose stadium.
Dubailand will be surrounded by the desert and divided into six main 'worlds' that will be themed around topics such as attractions, sports, leisure, holidays, entertainment and science and ecology.
The development will be managed by the Dubai Development and Investment Authority (DDIA) and is expected to bring in over 200,000 visitors daily once completed. The first phase, in which the Dubai government is expected to invest £700m, will involve the construction of the multi-purpose stadium, golf courses and a championship motorsport circuit and should be completed by 2006.
Eight of the Dubailand projects are already fully capitalized but United Arab Emirates and international investors are still needed for other projects within the tourism, real estate, hospitality and leisure sectors. All of the projects have now been developed to pre-feasibility stage and also include basic financial and attendance projections. Details: www.dubailand.ae
