Andy Murray backs plans for Scottish academy
US Open Champion and Olympic gold medallist, Andy Murray, has joined his mother, Judy, in calling for a new national tennis academy in Scotland.
Speaking to the BBC this week, Murray said a new tennis academy would make a big difference to the sport: "One of the things that is missing is a focal point for tennis that a lot of the promising juniors can go to practise at and have the best coaching. I think it would make a big difference."
The Murrays have received a positive response from Scotland's first minister, Alex Salmond: "This is certainly in line with the Scottish government’s ambition to improve young Scots participation in sport. We'll be exploring this with the Murrays and their team over the next two months and we hope to make an announcement in this regard in the near future."
