Aedas to build skybridge “landmark” in China’s new Hengqin District
Aedas has been retained by the China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) to design a 200,000-metre skybridge at the Hengqin CRCC Plaza in Zhuhai, China.
Designed by chief architect Andy Wen, the elevated, snake-like bridge will feature leisure facilities, green areas, and office spaces and will loop between four mixed-used towers.
Aedas said that the bridge – strategically located a stone’s throw from Macau, between the Pearl River and South China Sea – would become the area’s new international landmark, embodying CRCC’s spirit of “connecting, communication, and circulation”.
The bridge is expected to be completed in 2022.
The Hengquin district is quickly becoming a popular real estate and tourism destination in China, drawing in investors from around the world. Recently, Guo Yonghang, Secretary of Zhuhai’s municipal committee called it a “cradle of the Maritime Silk Road”.
According to the committee, as of June 2018, the Hengqin Area of China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone has attracted 144 financial companies from Hong Kong and 18 financial firms from Macau.
