Montenegro's largest waterpark opens doors in Budva
One of the largest waterparks on the Adriatic coast has opened in Budva, Montenegro.
Located in the Topliš hills, the €13m (US$14.6m, £10.2m) Aquapark Budva covers 40,000sq m (430,000sq ft) and can accommodate up to 6,000 people daily.
Featuring more than 50 attractions including a range of waterslides and pools, the waterpark supplied by Aquaterra Solutions also offers dry options, including a restaurant, three bars, a children’s café, retail outlets and a photo booth.
The waterpark is the realisation of a decade of planning, when the municipality originally signed a joint venture agreement with Cyprus-based company, Numerico Trade. That business failed however, with Russian company Mirax taking up the project before those plans too fell through. Aquaterra picked up the project in 2014, working through to completion.
Among the park’s top attractions are the 67.5m (221ft) long and 26m (85ft) high Big Kamikaze slide. For the less adventurous visitor, the Small Kamikaze is also an option, with the ride similar to its big brother but only 62.5m (205ft) long and 17.5m (57.4ft) high. The park also offers the Hidrotube Slide, which uses an inflatable raft on its 60m (196ft) descent, while a 122m (400ft) toboggan slide is also available.
