Gaylord resort brings competition to nearby rivals with US$5m waterpark expansion
Gaylord Texan Resort has expanded its waterpark offering, installing a kid-friendly US$5m (€4.5m, £3.5m) expansion of its Paradise Springs outdoor attraction.
Following a Texan theme, the attraction which first opened in 2011 serves both members of the public and hotel guests, with a complimentary entrance to the waterpark included with a Gaylord stay.
The multi-million dollar expansion has been designed by the Aquatic Development Group with younger guests in mind, offering three waterslides, a play structure with water features, a child-friendly pool area, more cabanas and increased seating.
Already included in the 40,500sq m (435,600sq ft) waterpark are a 183m (600ft) lazy river and a 557sq m (6,000sq ft) heated family lagoon with walk-in beach. Gaylord officials hope that the new addition will allow the waterpark to compete with nearby rivals, including Great Wolf, Six Flags and Hawaiian Falls.
The waterpark expansion is part of wider Gaylord plans to add 303 new bedrooms to its existing offering, bringing the total up to 1,814. The full resort expansion is expected to be complete by early 2019.
