World Archery sets up Excellence Centre crowdfunding scheme
World Archery has invited members of the public to contribute to the development of its “multi-million pound” Excellence Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland via a crowdfunding platform.
The governing body for the sport has set a US$50,000 (£34,852, €44,208) target over the next two months, which will contribute to additional decoration inside the building.
Money raised will not go towards the construction of the Tardin & Pittet-designed centre, which has been fully-funded by World Archery, Easton Foundations, SporToto, the Canton de Vaud, the city of Lausanne and Canton’s sport foundation Fonds du Sport Vaudois.
Individuals who donate to the crowdfunding scheme will have their names displayed on the wall of honour on the outdoor shooting range. They will also receive exclusive memorabilia, sponsor trees and archery targets, and will be able to take advanced archery lessons.
“The World Archery Excellence Centre was conceived to be a central hub for archery’s growth worldwide,” said World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen. “So we wanted to give the global archery community, as well as the sport and local communities in Lausanne, the chance to be involved in the project.”
After five years of planning for the Excellence Centre, ground was broken in late-2014. The centre is expected to open shortly after the conclusion of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It will be managed and run by the Foundation for International Archery Development (FIDTA).
Separately, the Danish city of Odense has been selected by World Archery as the host of the 2016 Archery World Cup final on 24 and 25 September.
