Bangor proposals get conditional approval
By Pete Hayman 11 Aug 2008
A new mixed-use development on the site of Bangor City Football Club in North Wales has been approved by the local authority.
Gwynedd Council's Arfon planning committee approved the plans at a meeting at the end of July, subject to the completion of a Section 106 agreement. Proposals include a new 22,000 sq ft (2,044 sq m) leisure facility being built on the city's Deiniol Road site, which is expected to become a bowling alley, although a spokesperson for developers Morbaine said that a cinema may occupy the leisure element depending on local needs. The project is a joint-venture with Watkin James, the oldest building contractor in Wales, and will also see retail units and student accommodation built. It is expected that the new development will be open for use in July 2011, with Morbaine currently in the process of relocating the football club to a site at Nantporth on the outskirts of the city.
