Banksy and Warhol exhibitions set to launch Amsterdam’s newest gallery in style
Amsterdam will add to its standout range of cultural attractions when the Modern Contemporary Museum (Moco) opens its doors on 9 April, kicking off with a crowd-pulling Banksy exhibition.
Moco is situated in a refurbished townhouse on Museum Square, which has been remodelled by Dutch design studio Piet Boon. Two of the Netherlands' most popular attractions, the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, are on the same square.
The elusive street artist is the subject of the exhibition Laugh Now, which runs until September and includes works like Beanfield and Four Monkeys.
A second exhibition celebrating the works of pop artist Andy Warhol is also launching with the opening of the gallery.
Moco has been set up by private collectors Lionel and Kim Logchies, who also own the Lionel Gallery in Amsterdam. The Logchies aim for the museum is to show artworks that are normally not publicly displayed.
As well as exhibition space, Moco has a vegetarian restaurant and gift shop, and the venue can be hired for private functions.
