Basic Fit is rolling out women-only training areas in selected clubs across its extensive estate.

The low-cost, European operator says that the zone has been designed by women for women. The focus has been on creating a supportive, comfortable and welcoming space for females to train. The only males present will be male fitness professionals.

Equipment includes the latest cardio machines, a wide range of free weights and resistance machines, such as leg press and glute trainers. Some of the clubs feature a circuit set up with six workout machines designed for major muscle groups to offer a safe, fast and effective workout.

Women’s only areas are trending as a way of being inclusive and addressing gymtimidation. However, attracting women is more than a case of shrink and pink. Women have specific needs and preferences.

UK operator, Total Fitness, carried out extensive research before launching its Women’s Gym concept.

“One of the biggest feedback pieces we’ve had about Women’s Gym is that they need to have a calming atmosphere,” says Total Fitness CEO, Sophie Lawler. “Feedback has validated the decision we made to create a lighter, welcoming space using a colour palette of peach, grey and blues. Not pink.”
