Beckham to launch Trinidad football festival
A new football festival - run by the David Beckham Academy - is set to be held in Trinidad this weekend to offer football and life skills schemes for young islanders.
It forms part of Beckham's "long-standing personal commitment" to FIFA vice president and CONCACAF president Jack Warner to help bring the academy to the island and offer coaching to 200 players and coaches. Launching on 26 September, the six-day festival also involves Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation and is set to take place across the two islands.
Beckham said: "Trinidad and Tobago have produced some excellent players over the years and the islands are full of young people who love football. I am really looking forward to seeing the young girls and boys from all backgrounds and their coaches at my academy." The festival will also form part of the David Beckham's Academy work for the England 2018 World Cup bid and aims to demonstrate how a successful campaign can benefit football on a global scale.
