Brady and Sullivan to leave Birmingham City

By Pete Hayman    16 Sep 2009

Birmingham City Football Club (BCFC) has revealed that PLC chair David Sullivan and chief executive Karren Brady will leave the club if a proposed takeover bid is successful.

Hong Kong-based businessman Carsten Yeung has lodged an offer through his company, Grandtop International Holding, which already owns a 29.9 per cent stake in the Premier League club. Brady first joined BCFC in 1993 along with Sullivan and took over as chief executive when its owner was in receivership. In her first year in the role, the club posted a financial trading profit before reporting an overall profit in 1996 - the club's first in modern times.

Brady said: "Grandtop have asked me to retain my position as CEO, but I honestly feel they must be allowed to stamp their own mark on the club and I believe that this is best done without the current board looking over their shoulder." Sullivan added: "I intend to remain in football, so following the takeover I will be looking for a new challenge where my experience, my success and sound business acumen will make a difference."

David Gold is set to remain as BCFC chair if the takeover is completed.
