Brixton to benefit from temporary ice rink
A temporary ice rink is to be created on the site of a condemned car park in Brixton, South London, after the plans were approved by Lambeth Council.
It forms part of a wider bid to construct a new ice rink and leisure centre in Streatham, with the temporary facility to remain in place for up to three years. Work on the Brixton ice rink is due to begin once the Pope's Road car park is demolished and it is hoped it will be open to the public by the end of the year.
Lambeth Council cabinet member for regeneration Sally Prentice said: "The Streatham Hub is an exciting project and promises to deliver much needed modern leisure facilities for Streatham. "We said all along that we wanted to make sure that skaters would have ice skating facilities throughout the duration of the project and we have stood by this promise."
