Three Gulf cities are competing for the rights to build the Middle East's first Angry Birds adventure park.

Doha in Qatar is competing with Abu Dhabi and al-Ain - the capital and second largest city in the United Arab Emirates respectively.

Gebal Group, the local agents for playground equipment manufacturer Lappset, said they are speaking to private investors, with Doha "in the more advanced stages" of negotiations.

Lappset has helped to design similar parks that have recently opened in Finland, Singapore and the UK. Most recently, the Angry Birds park in Yorkshire was opened at a cost of £1m (US$1.51m, €1.16m), and includes a 30,000sq ft (2,787sq m) area with indoor and outdoor attractions - including a 55" touch-screen computer with the game installed.

The new UK park is predicted to generate £2.5m (US$3.77m, €2.9m) in revenue over the next five years.

The Middle Eastern version is expected to cost more than US$16m (£10.6m, €12.4m) and can be completed within 18 months of one of the competing cities winning the contract.
