Cardiff City Stadium considering 11,000-seat expansion
Cardiff City Football Club is considering expanding the Cardiff City Stadium by 11,172 seats, bringing the eventual capacity to 38,000.
According to Wales Online supporters had been consulted on potential plans that would see the first stage of development begin as early as September or October this year.
The first phase of expansion would see the ground's Ninian Stand gain an additional tier - with the current roof on the stand being removed before the end of the upcoming season.
Following the end of the 2013/2014 season, 5,000 seats would be installed in time for the kick-off of the 2014/2015 season.
Following that, 2,500 to 3,000 seats would be added to both the Canton and Grange ends of the ground respectively.
The club is yet to confirm the plans. A club representative told Leisure Opportunities that “at this stage, the club will be making no official comment on proposed stadium expansion. Should developments happen then we will advise in due course.”
Additional plans would see two large screens erected on both ends of the pitch, while the Ninian Stand would also include a corporate area with catering facilities.
The plans would have to gain approval from councillors before any work could go ahead.
