Carer's Garden opens at Barnsley Metrodome
Barnsley Premier Leisure has opened a Carer's Garden at Barnsley Metrodome where carers can take the person they are caring for to relax.
Mayor Councillor Ken Sanderson officially opened the Barnsley Carer's Garden by planting a tree in the new grounds during a special Carer's afternoon held at the Metrodome to celebrate National Carer's Week.
The Carer's Garden is a half acre plot to the rear of the Metrodome and will be looked after by Barnsley Premier Leisure, which will work with local carers to develop the garden. There will be a fruit and vegetable patch where carers can grow fresh produce to sell within the local community to generate income for the garden.
James Starbuck, chief executive of Barnsley Premier Leisure, said: "We are delighted to have a permanent garden at the Metrodome where carers can come to relax and take some time out.
"There are so many carers whose work goes largely unrecognised and it is fantastic that we have been able to acknowledge the great work they do this week and we look forward to them enjoying the garden for many years to come."
