Clubs announce preferred stadium site
Wycombe Wanderers Football Club (WWFC) and London Wasps rugby union team have announced their preferred site for the development of a new community stadium.
The clubs - through the Wycombe Sports Development vehicle - have identified Air Park at Booker, High Wycombe, as their favoured location for the scheme, which will also include a sports village. A Wycombe District Council-led public consultation to explore the plans is due to close on 29 October, with Air Park among a total of three potential sites for the development.
Proposals include a stadium with a 17,500-20,000 capacity and sports village to incorporate football and rugby pitches; a racquets centre; five-a-side pitches; an athletics facility and a cricket ground. Steve Hayes, owner of both WWFC and London Wasps, said: "We launched a vision in March for how we want to develop new facilities that would be really exciting, and help us build a successful and sustainable future here in Wycombe."
"We are now clear on how we can best achieve that - by building a new community stadium and sports village at Wycombe Air Park at Booker." Meanwhile, Chris Thomas has been appointed chief executive of both clubs after stepping into the role on an interim basis in order to replace Paul Harrison in April.
Hayes added: "People understandably often talk about playing squad signings, but for me securing Chris' services is just as important as any other signing we have made."
