The £2.2m Chulmleigh Community Sports Centre – in Chulmleigh, north Devon – has opened for business.

The centre, located within the town’s community college, is a dual-use facility – the community college has access to the sports hall, fitness suite and other facilities during the day, with the local community using facilities in the evenings, at weekends and during holidays.

The centre offers a four-court badminton hall and a 25-station fitness suite, equipped by Life Fitness.

Also available at the site – developed as part of an initiative to improve leisure facilities for the local community – are two floodlit artificial pitches and three floodlit tennis courts.

The sports complex has been a combined effort between Devon County Council, the parish council, and the community college.

Funding for the various projects has come from the New Opportunities lottery fund, Sport England, the All England Lawn Tennis Association, Devon County Council, the Community College and the Playing Fields Association.
