Council to take sports centre legal action
Mendip District Council (MDC) has confirmed that it will be taking legal action against its tenant at the Tor Sport and Leisure Centre in Glastonbury, Somerset.
According to the local authority, a 'lack of compliance' has prompted its decision to seek a court order, which aims to force the tenant to carry out repairs totalling more than £200,000. The council's case is to go before Yeovil County Court in due course and, if successful, will demand that the work is undertaken to return Tor Sport and Leisure Centre to an 'acceptable' standard.
MDC portfolio holder for governance and resources Tom Killen said: "Over recent years, the council considers that the land and buildings have not been repaired and maintained in accordance with the terms of the lease."
