DLL to launch £9.3m health club in Newbury
David Lloyd Leisure (DLL) will launch its 92nd health club in Newbury, Berkshire, this December, representing a £9.3m investment.
Construction company Pellikaan has already started work on architects Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson’s designs for the new 3,300sq m (35,521sq ft) club.
A key feature in the club will be the 600sq m (6,458sq ft) gym, which will house DLL’s latest gym concept, combining modern design and technology with a range of equipment. Life Fitness will be one of the main suppliers, in addition to DLL’s usual ‘best-in-class’ equipment suppliers including Octane Fitness, Power Plate and Woodway.
To complement the gym, a full programme of group exercise classes will be available across three group exercise studios. One studio will be dedicated to indoor cycling – an area where the chain has invested extensively – while the others will offer high impact and mind and body classes.
The swimming facilities will comprise both indoor and outdoor heated pools, offering a range of activities including aqua aerobics, family swim times and quiet adult swim sessions.
Elsewhere, the club will feature outdoor tennis courts, including all-weather bubble protection, offering families some of the best tennis facilities, programmes and expertise in the region. The racquets facilities will also include two squash courts.
Other facilities will include a wet spa area, a dedicated DL Kids zone and a DLicious cafe/bar.
