Design group secures Hong Kong contract
Leicester-based Haley Sharpe Design (HSD) has been awarded the interpretative planning and exhibit design for a major redevelopment of Hong Kong's Maritime Museum.
The group will work as part of a team led by Hong Kong-based P&T Architects on the development, which will cost HK$110m (£9.8m, US$14.1m, €11.4m) and is due for completion in October 2012. Currently at the schematic design stage, the redevelopment will see the attraction move from its Stanley Bay home to the revamped pier building on the waterfront at Pier 8, Hong Kong Harbour.
The museum will examine Hong Kong and China's maritime history through a series of audio-visual, IT and reconstruction exhibits, as well as using display cases and physical interactives. HSD senior project manager Kevin Callis said: "This is our most prominent project in this part of world, and is developing well with very talented and enthusiastic client and architectural teams.
"It's an exciting collection, and the new location provides some very usable and unique gallery spaces thanks to the creative architectural treatment of the existing building."
