Disabled sports scheme for Cotswold children

By Pete Hayman    26 Jan 2009

Cotswold District Council (CDC) is to launch a new initiative designed to encourage disabled children to stay active and involved in a range of sports.

Organised in partnership with Active Gloucestershire and the Cotswold School in Bourton-on-the-Water, the scheme will include free sessions in Boccia, slalom, wheelchair football and curling for children over the age of 7. Launching on 28 January at the Cotswold School, there will be seven sessions held up until the end of March, and will be run by coaches specially trained in inclusion work.

CDC youth participation officer, Claire Dowan, said: "This is an exciting new project that will provide local children and young people with the opportunity to play sport in a non-competitive and fun way."
