Disney Store UK signs up to woodland scheme
Disney Store UK and the Woodland Trust have announced the launch of a new partnership that aims to raise funds for the creation of a new 50-acre (20.2-hectare) woodland to be called The Magical Wood.
The Magical Wood will form part of the new 858-acre (347.2-hectare) Heartwood Forest near St Albans, Hertfordshire, which was purchased by the trust last year and is set to become the largest new native forest in England. From 2 April, Disney Stores will start selling new reusable shopping bags featuring Winnie the Pooh and Piglet, with £1 from each sale to be donated to the Woodland Trust. Meanwhile, Disney Store will also start charging for regular bags, with all profits going to the trust.
Karl Mitchell, director of development at the Woodland Trust, said: "By working with one of the world's favourite brands, we aim to inspire thousands of children to look after the environment, as well as creating a fantastic woodland which will excite generations of children to come." The partnership will also help to support the Woodland Trust's attempts to manage more than 1,000 woods around the UK. Disney Store Europe's joint managing director, Teresa Tideman, added: "We have a range of initiatives lined-up that will not only raise funds, but also educate our gests and cast members on the importance of trees to our environment and well-being."
