Dundee Football Club (DFC) has been left facing an uncertain future after administrator Bryan Jackson revealed that the club only had enough funds to last until Christmas.

Jackson, of accountant and advisory firm PKF, announced that the Scottish League Division One club has racked up debts of £2m - mainly to HM Revenue and Customs and investors. Nine players have been made redundant by Jackson as part of efforts to safeguard the club's future, along with one coach, two management staff and one other DFC employee.

Jackson said: "I believe that this club, which has such a proud and famous past, is facing the most difficult fight of its life. The truth is that the club only has sufficient funds to last until Christmas at the latest and has debts of £2m." DFC director Bob Brannan has also announced his resignation from the club and has confirmed that his 54 per cent stake is to be made available to the administrator to help raise funds.

Brannan said: "It is my strong hope that the fans can generate sufficient funds to own and operate the club. I will also cooperate with any CVA proposal in relation to the loans I have outstanding in a way that best preserves its future." Meanwhile, Portsmouth Football Club (PFC) looks set to come out of administration after reaching agreement in principle with the Football League.

The npower Championship club had been told that it must meet further requirements before its Football League share could be transferred to PFC by the competition's authorities.
