Edinburgh Zoo has been awarded the globally recognised environmental standard ISO1401.

To achieve the award, the zoo had prove that it had implemented an environmental management system that conforms to an organisation's own stated environmental policy.

Key in achieving this recognition is the Society's environmental approach to pest control and a significant reduction in recycled waste going to landfill. All contractors of the Society also comply with the benchmark of the environmental standard.
