Efteling has opened Hooghmoed, a new family drop tower designed to broaden the appeal of its recently launched Sirene Island themed area and introduce younger visitors to thrill attractions.

The 22-metre ride, whose name translates as “Hubris”, is the third attraction on Sirene Island and is suitable for children from 90cm tall, enabling families with younger children to experience a more adventurous ride together.

Hooghmoed forms part of Efteling’s strategy of making incremental investments that increase capacity and enhance the guest journey without requiring the scale of capital associated with major new themed lands. By targeting children who are ready to progress beyond gentler rides, the attraction helps create a natural pathway to larger thrill experiences elsewhere in the park.

The ride is themed around the story of the mermaid sisters featured throughout Sirene Island. Visitors are lifted to the top of the tower before dropping suddenly and bouncing several times above the surrounding landscape.

Hooghmoed comprises three 12m towers with a combined hourly capacity of 600 guests. Each ride cycle lasts around 90 seconds and includes sound, mist and smoke effects.

The opening builds on the launch of Danse Macabre in late 2024, one of the most significant investments in the park’s recent history, and demonstrates the Dutch operator’s continued focus on refreshing its offer through a combination of large-scale flagship attractions and smaller additions aimed at specific audience segments.

Efteling welcomed more than five million visitors in 2025. The company continues to invest in capacity, storytelling and guest experience as it seeks to strengthen its position in the highly competitive European short-break market.
