Welsh heritage minister Alun Ffred Jones has opened a new BareFootTrail at GreenWood Forest Park at Y Felinheli, Gwynedd, as part of a series of events to mark Wales Tourism Week.

The 300m (984ft) trail allows visitors the chance to walk barefoot through the park's woodland, experiencing a variety of natural terrains including leaves, pebbles, bark, sand, slate and mud. Jones said: "It is a welcome addition to Wales' great variety of quality visitor attractions and opportunities for days out. GreenWood is an excellent example of the type of eco-tourism attraction we want to see more of in Wales."

Stephen Bristow, managing director of GreenWood Forest Park, added: "The future of the tourism industry depends on visitors leaving the attractions they visit with very special and memorable impressions. This is why we feel it is important to continually innovate and review our product." The opening of the new trail coincided with the launch of Wales Tourism Week, which formed part of British Tourism Week between 20-27 March, and saw Jones visit a number of businesses across Wales to demonstrate the importance of tourism to the Welsh economy.
