Leisure centre reopens after £6.5m revamp
A Cardiff leisure centre has reopened after two-and-a-half years and £6.5m worth of refurbishments.
Active Eastern, which is in the district of Llanrumney, reopened its doors to the public on Saturday (20 August). It closed in February 2014 to be refurbished.
The facility, which used to be called Eastern Leisure Centre, has dedicated spin class spaces, a five-lane swimming pool and a café. The fitness zone is one of largest and best-equipped in the city, according to City of Cardiff Council, which runs the centre.
Councillor Peter Bradbury said: “I am absolutely delighted with this new facility and I am sure that residents will be equally impressed when they go and see the new centre for themselves. Before it was closed for refurbishment Eastern Leisure Centre used to attract about 250,000 residents every year and I think that following this £6.5m investment visitor numbers and fitness levels will go from strength to strength.”
