Holmes Place Health Clubs is expanding in Spain and Portugal with the launch of a new franchising concept.

The first Fitness WorX opened in March in Lisbon, Portugal. Located in the building of pharmaceutical company Roche, it is exclusively for the use of company employees.

Fitness WorX is designed to enable hotel and resort owners and property developers to include a high quality, mini Holmes Place gym in their facilities.

The concept is flexible and has been developed to be adaptable to business opportunities and the needs of landlords. Club dimensions will range from 150sq m (1,600sq ft) to 1,200sq m (13,000sq ft).

Fitness WorX offers four levels of operation: three different management contracts and a full franchise option.

Nick Coutts, CEO of Holmes Place Iberia, says Fitness WorX will reform the fitness industry and offer more choice for people with little time.

The group plans to open 10 Fitness WorX franchises by the end of 2006. A new Holmes Place club is also due to open in Madrid later this year.
