Football Conference seals Chester City fate

By Pete Hayman    08 Mar 2010

Chester City Football Club's (CCFC) record for the 2009-10 Blue Square Premier season has been expunged after the Football Conference confirmed the club had not appealed against its expulsion.

Member clubs voted in favour of removing CCFC from the competition after it failed to fulfil two fixtures scheduled during February, having previously incurred a 25-point deduction for breaching financial regulations. A Football Conference statement said: "The Football Conference announces Chester City (2004) FC, having not lodged any appeal in respect of their removal from the competition, their playing record has been expunged with immediate effect (8 March).

Glasgow Rangers Football Club (GRFC) of the Scottish Premier League could be subject to a possible takeover after it was revealed majority shareholder Murray International Holdings (MIH) is in talks with interested parties. Property developer Andrew Ellis has been named as one of the potential suitors to the club by the board of directors, which confirmed that discussions remain at an early stage but could lead to "an offer or offers" for MIH's stake.

A GRFC spokesperson said: "It is particularly important to the independent directors that any possible offeror is able to demonstrate the capacity and commitment to provide a stable and sustainable future for GRFC." Meanwhile, English Premier League outfit Stoke City Football Club (SCFC) has posted a net profit of £503,000 for the year ending 31 May 2009, compared with a loss of £4.3m for the previous year.

Turnover increased sharply by nearly four times to £54m as a result of the club's promotion to the Premier League in May 2008, with operating profits increasing to £15m compared with a loss of more than £5.6m in 2007-08. Hartlepool United Football Club (HUFC) has confirmed that it has started legal proceedings to have Billingham Town Football Club (BTFC) of the Northern League Division One wound up over unpaid debt.

In a statement, HUFC revealed BTFC failed to comply with an agreement signed in early 2007 that required the Northern League club contribute towards the cost of maintaining the pitch at its Bedford Terrace ground. The agreement followed "significant" investment in facilities at BTFC's Bedford Terrace ground by HUFC, which uses the venue for reserve team fixtures.

Lynn FC, the football club set up following the demise of King's Lynn Football Club in late 2009, has announced that it will be known publicly as Kings Lynn Town Football Club (KLTFC) after a vote of supporters. Keith Chapman, director of Lynn FC - the club's trading name, said: "I had no prejudice to any particular name, but it became quite clear that the fans wanted King's Lynn Town."
