Funding concerns for GB Winter Olympic team
Concerns have been raised over whether British athletes will be able to participate at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics after the British Ski and Snowboard Federation (BSSF) was hit by a funding shortfall.
According to The Times, BSSF - which trades under the name Snowsports GB - requires a £200,000 cash injection by the end of the month in order to avoid the threat of administration, having suffered as a result of the recession. However, the British Olympic Association (BOA) has announced that it has drawn up a contingency plan to support British competitors who are due to compete in Vancouver during February if it is required.
BOA chief executive Andy Hunt said: "We are fully aware of the situation and have been briefed on the steps being taken by Snowsport GB to remedy the financial shortfall. "The BOA's absolute priority is to do everything possible to ensure that the athletes are able to compete in the Vancouver Games as members of Team GB. We have developed a contingency plan and, should it become necessary to do so, will submit it to our board for consideration."
