Glasgow 2014 volunteers named Clyde-siders
Glasgow 2014 organisers received a record-breaking 50,800 applications for the 15,000 volunteering roles available at next year's Commonwealth Games.
On the day that the first Volunteers were told their applications had been successful, it was also revealed that the volunteer workforce would be called collectively as "Clyde-siders".
It is hoped that the name will help inspire and create a similar mood in the city during the Games as that generated by the presence of Games Makers during London 2012.
The name is also a deliberate nod to the famous and historic river which runs through the heart of Glasgow and provides such a focal point for the city's residents.
Lord Smith of Kelvin, chair of Glasgow 2014, said: "Glasgow 2014 fully appreciates the time and commitment shown by all candidates who were selected for interview for what is Scotland's largest ever peacetime recruitment drive.
"The Clyde-siders will be the friendly faces of the Games, the first point of contact for many people, and are bound to inject their personalities into the event."
