Government reveals Olympic legacy plans
London 2012 will generate a number of sporting, economic and social benefits for the UK under new legacy proposals outlined by the government.
Plans for the legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games has been made available by the government, which sets out how it will maximise the event's potential. Four main areas have been identified in the document: increasing grassroots participation; exploiting opportunities for growth; promoting community engagement; and regenerating East London.
Although the new plans have been produced by the government, a number of organisations will be involved in the delivery of the Olympic and Paralympic legacy. In the document, the government said: "It is important that we are able in the future to assess the benefits of the Games and their legacy.
"For that reason, we have engaged a consortium from the private and academic sectors, led by Grant Thornton, to carry out a meta-evaluation of the 2012 Games' benefits and legacy." The government also plans to publish annual updates to its legacy plan, with the first reports due in the New Year.
