Green light for £40m Bradford scheme
A major £40m development scheme is set to transform an area of central Bradford, West Yorkshire, after proposals received the go ahead from the local authority.
An Odeon cinema situated on the corner of Prince's Way and Thornton Road is now set to be demolished in order to make way for the New Victoria Place project, which will include a 98-bedroom hotel, bars and cafés. Developer Langtree Artisan and regional development agency Yorkshire Forward are behind the proposals, which have been drawn up by UK architects careyjones and also include community leisure facilities and office space.
Langtree Artisan director Simon Peters said: "The project team has worked hard to create a viable scheme that is deliverable, iconic and beneficial to all Bradfordians. "We will now work on the detailed designs and engage with those who have already expressed an interest in being a part of New Victoria Place."
Maud Marshall, chief executive of the urban regeneration company, Bradford Centre Regeneration, added: "A lot of time and effort has been invested in ensuring the scheme reflects the city's future aspirations, while complementing the richness of its architectural heritage. "We look forward to the scheme progressing in the fastest possible way to bring a key city centre site back into positive economic use."
