Guggenheim Wales plans ruled out
Plans to bring a Guggenheim Museum to Wales have been completely ruled out by the Guggenheim foundation.
"The Guggenheim Foundation is not in any conversations about a museum in Wales nor have we been at any time," said Eleanor Goldhar, deputy director and chief of global communication for the foundation.
Former MP Adam Price, spoke last week of his ambitious plans to bring the Guggenheim to Wales, which came a year ago after Finland's capital Helsinki rejected a feasibility study it had earlier commissioned, leading to the decision not to build a Guggenheim in Finland.
Price had suggested an opening date of anywhere between 2019 to 2020, which would have fitted in with the current timetable for electrification of the south Wales rail line.
In 2012, the Bilbao Guggenheim was credited with helping to generate €294.6m (£252m, US$380m) in GDP for Spain, according to a report from the foundation.
The Bilbao museum, which opened in 1997, has been credited with transforming the city from an industrial centre into a cultural destination.
