Olympic gold medalist Sally Gunnell launched the new look Fleming Park Leisure Centre in Eastleigh, Hampshire, on 17 January, upon completion of a £1.1m re-development.

Jointly funded by Eastleigh Borough Council (EBC) and centre operator DC Leisure, the upgrade includes a dedicated Health Works office for the council’s GP referral and Health Walks teams, an extended restaurant and reception area, improved toilet facilities, soft play area and a landscaped plaza.

The new office space will be used to organize walks, which last year saw hundreds of people involved, and manage the centre’s GP referral scheme, which recorded 10,000 visits in 2005.

Fleming Park also offers a 6,000sq ft (560sq m) gym; a health suite and exercise studio; a 10-court sports hall; a 25m swimming pool and a teaching pool; four squash courts; a range of 15 outdoor pitches, from a full-size artificial turf pitch to mini grass pitches; four floodlit tennis courts; and an 18-hole golf course and clubhouse.
