Historical attractions most important for UK's holiday makers

A new survey from QHotels has discovered that historical attractions are the most important factor for tourists when choosing a mini break destination in the UK.

55 per cent of the 2,225 adults surveyed said that historical attractions were the most important when choosing a mini break destination, while the variety of bars and restaurants (45 per cent) and the museums and galleries available (39 per cent) came second and third respectively.

York came top of the list of mini break destinations on the list, with 37 per cent of respondents saying they would consider a trip to the historic city in 2015. Shakespeare’s birthplace of Stratford-upon-Avon was also a popular destination at 24 per cent, while Oxford came narrowly in third with 23 per cent.

“We’re lucky to have so much history on our doorstep in Britain and it’s pleasing to see so many of us are planning on getting out and exploring this year,” said Claire Rowland, director of marketing at QHotels

“York claimed a well-deserved place at the top of list but it was interesting to see how many other historic cities are in the top five and shows why historical attractions are the most important thing when choosing a destination for a mini break.
