Hyde United to appeal closure ruling
Hyde United Football Club (HUFC) has announced that it intends to fight a High Court decision on 23 September to officially wind the club up over unpaid tax debts.
The Blue Square North club failed in its bid to secure a final adjournment to pay £122,000 in petition debt to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), despite producing evidence that it would meet the total owed. HUFC chair Steve Hartley revealed in a statement that the club is seeking to overturn the High Court ruling, which will require funds to be in place in order to pay the petition debt plus associated legal costs.
A scheduled FA Cup fixture against Salford City on 26 September was postponed to allow time for an appeal against the winding up order, while HUFC is confident that it will be able to continue competing in Blue Square North as normal if the legal challenge is successful. The decision to wind up HUFC came as Margate Football Club was given more time to pay the balance of its outstanding tax bill, after convincing the High Court that funding was in place to repay the debt.
Rochdale Football Club, which competes in Football League Two, was also granted an adjournment after HMRC decided not to challenge the club's application for more time to settle its unpaid tax bills. A statement from the club said: "Although the petition was listed for hearing the club believes that the adjournment would be granted as it would be not be contested by HMRC, which has been satisfied with the payments made and the arrangements for future payments."
Meanwhile, a petition issued by HMRC against Harlow Town Football Club has been dropped after the club entered into a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) to ensure that its creditors receive a dividend on their claims. David Mond of Hodgsons Chartered Accountants, which is supervising the CVA, said; "Harlow Town FC has done what was necessary to give the club a chance to re-emerge and try and rebuild itself in a more stable, financial position with the support of the town."
