IHRSA report values UK fitness market at £3.7bn
The latest edition of the IHRSA International Report: Size and Scope of Key Health Club Markets has estimated that the UK’s fitness market generated revenues of £3.7bn (4.2bn euro) during 2010.
The report, which charts key markets in Europe as well as Asia-Pacific, shows that while Italy has the most number of health clubs (8,300 facilities) in Europe and Spain the most members (8 million), it is the UK market that generates most money from its 7.4 million members and 6,000 clubs.
The German market is among the lowest for total market penetration (9.69 per cent of the population are members of a health club) while Spain (19.7 per cent of population are gym members) is among the highest.
