Jamie Oliver gains £1m public funding to open Fifteen Cornwall
Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is to receive £1m of public money from the South West of England Regional Development Agency and the Objective One programme to open a new Fifteen restaurant in Cornwall.
Due to open in May 2006, Fifteen Cornwall be built in Watergate Bay near Newquay and be based on Fifteen London’s format, which opened in 2002 and gives disadvantaged young people the chance to train as chefs.
All profits will go to The Cornwall Foundation of Promise, similar to Oliver’s Fifteen Foundation, which will support the Cornish youngsters’ places on the scheme.
The expansion of the Fifteen brand is part of Oliver’s intention to grow Fifteen and turn it into a “global social enterprise” to inspire young people all over the world. Oliver has previously opened Fifteen Amsterdam, in December 2004, while a further site will open in Melbourne, Australia, in 2006, within the Windsor Hotel. Details: www.fifteenrestaurant.com
