Queens Park Rangers Football Club (QPR) has been named as Ealing Council's preferred bidder to take on the lease of the publicly-owned Warren Farm sports ground in Southall, west London.
The Premier League club is proposing to develop the site as its new training ground, which will also provide new facilities for community use - including a new sports pavilion.
Improved football and cricket pitches; an artificial training pitch; and a multi-use games area also form part of plans put forward by QPR, which was one of five bidders for the lease.
Ealing Council said that it will now work with QPR, user groups and local residents in order to deliver the scheme, although no lease or agreement has yet been signed.
"The Warren Farm site gives us a fantastic opportunity to provide some excellent new facilities for the use of the whole community," said council leader Julian Bell.
