Retro resort sends guests back to the 50s
Universal Orlando visitors are being transported back to the 1950s and 60s at the newly-opened Cabana Bay Beach Resort.
Pitched in the value and moderately-priced range, it is the fourth on-site hotel at Universal Orlando Resort and has been designed to evoke the retro-feel of iconic beach resorts from the time period. The 37-acre site is adjacent to Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park.
Attractions at the resort include a 10-lane bowling alley and a waterslide that splashes down into a 929sq m (10,00sq ft) zero-entry pool. The resort also has a physical fitness studio in the style of the period, which is named after the so-called godfather of fitness Jack LaLanne.
Universal Orlando’s first lazy river water ride to be built at an on-site hotel will open this summer, as well as a second 743sq m (8,000sq ft) zero entry pool.
The Cabana Bay Beach Resort is operated by Loews Hotels & Resorts. It will feature a total of 1,800 rooms – 900 family suites and 900 standard guest rooms. Rates for the family suites begin at $174 (€125, £104) per night, while the standard guest rooms begin at $119 (€86, £71) per night.
