Portuguese gym chain Vivafit makes move into Asian markets
Women-only fitness franchise Vivafit, headquartered in Portugal, recently continued its rapid expansion with three clubs opening simultaneously in three different markets across a single month: in Pune, India; Atyrau in Kazakhstan; and Dubai.
The Pune site is a 180sq m club, with a PT studio and group exercise studio. Aimed at high-class Indians, membership costs the equivalent of €450 a year, paid in advance, including a monthly consultation with a dietitian. This is the first club in Pune and the ninth in India. Vivafit co-founder Pedro Ruiz says he wants to open two more clubs in Pune and 500 more in India.
Previously a public swimming pool, the Atyrau club has been refurbished to include two fitness studios (250sq m and 110sq m) and a 100sq m gym. It targets expats, with a membership price of €283, pre-paid for six months. This is the first site in Kazakhstan and there are plans to develop 24 more.
With a gym and two fitness studios, the Dubai club targets both Emirati nationals and expats with its non-intimidating atmosphere and range of Vivafit and Les Mills classes. Situated on the 10th floor of an office building, it has great views over the city. This is the second club in the city; there are plans for 12 more across the UAE, including nine more in Dubai.
Miralago provided the equipment for all three clubs.
