Jersey seeks public feedback on island’s sporting future
Jersey has launched a consultation document calling for those who watch, volunteer or take part in sport to submit their views on the future of sport on the island.
The consultation, which closes 31 May, covers competitive sport, organised and team activities, and activities such as walking and cycling.
It seeks feedback on four key questions: whether the state needs to make changes; should it create a new co-ordinating organisation for sport; is a new model for sports development required; and should the state continue to run facilities or should other options be explored.
Public feedback is also sought for suggestions on artificial pitches, funding pressures and sports events.
Education, Sport and Culture Department (ESC) assistant minister Roy Le Herissier said: “Sport has a far-reaching impact – not just on individuals who take part but also for the Island as a whole in terms of health, tourism and social cohesion.”
ESC minister Patrick Ryan added: “In these tough economic times we must make the case for sport in a way that recognises the considerable benefits it brings to our health and wellbeing.”
