LOCOG appoints 2012 security director
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has appointed Sir Ian Johnston as the director of security and resilience for the 2012 Games.
Johnston, who is currently nearing the end of an eight-year spell as chief constable of British Transport Police, will be responsible for leading security at each of the Olympic venues, as well as the Olympic Village. He said: "The London 2012 Games are a massive opportunity to showcase London and the UK. Security is a vital part of ensuring we host a spectacular and successful event and I am very much looking forward to playing my part in meeting that challenge."
Other responsibilities include ensuring all plans are integrated with all sectors, including workforce, accreditation and transport, while also liaising with the Home Office and Olympic Security Directorate.
