LOCOG to embark on testing programme
Organisers of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are preparing to commence a year-long testing programme later this month under the banner 'London Prepares'.
The London Organising Committee of the 2012 Games (LOCOG) is using the schedule to test the sporting field of play, as well as results, timing and scoring systems. London Prepares will see a number of Olympic and Paralympic venue used, including sites on the Olympic Park that will host events for the first time since completion.
LOCOG will be organising and ticketing some of the events, with a number to be operated by LOCOG and others that will be managed by external organisations. Four events will be ticketed by LOCOG this summer - mountain biking at Hadleigh Farm (31 July) and beach volleyball at Horse Guards Parade (9-14 August).
Basketball and BMX are the remaining ticketed events and will take part at new venues in the Olympic Park. Tickets will be available from 26 May and will cost between £5-35. Other elements to be tested as part of the London Prepares programme include equestrian facilities in Greenwich Park and new marking lanes for rowing at Eton Dorney.
LOCOG chief executive Paul Deighton said: "These events are our opportunity to try out our new venues, test new technology and equipment and walk our extended teams through their roles and responsibilities." Image: London 2012 BMX Track – ODA
